Fees

Fees for sample analysis:

Analysis by ICP-MS:

One of the benefits of the ICP-MS is the ability to quantify many elements simultaneously while achieving low detection limits. Researchers interested in the opportunity are invited to submit their own samples for analysis. Typical cost per sample (per replicate) starts at $20.

Pricing depends upon time and materials required for method development, number of analytes requested, sample preparation, etc. Base price = $20 per sample for any elements included within one standard set. For each additional standard set required, add $20 per sample. An additional $5 charge per sample may be added for method development time or sample preparation. Please see the ALEC web site for details on pricing or detection limits.

Carbon and Nitrogen Analysis:

The Shimadzu TOC-VCSH can analyze a variety of sample types for total carbon(TC), total organic carbon(TOC or NPOC), inorganic carbon(IC) and total nitrogen(TN).

Aqueous samples must be prefiltered to < 0.45 micron. Samples containing larger particles (such as slurries) can be processed as solid samples for TC.

Solid samples are analyzed for TC by dry combustion at 900 degrees C under oxygen. Soils should be sieved to < 0.150mm (100mesh) to provide homogenous samples. Analysis of IC is an independent measurement conducted at 200 degrees C in the presence of phosphoric acid. TOC can be calculated from TC minus IC.

Cost per sample is outlined below.

Aqueous samples (< 0.45micron):

TC, TOC, IC or TDN = $7.00 per vial

TOC plus TDN = $12.00 per vial

Solid or slurry samples:

TC or IC = $7.00 per sample

TOC (TC minus IC) = $14.00 per sample
